The 2012 Canadian Pacific Holiday Train visits the Junction December 1st, 2012 at 05:30 PM
Location: 750 Runnymede Rd, in front of CP Lambton yard office, parking only in Walmart lot [Runnymede south  of St. Clair, entrance opposite Ryding Ave.]

Here is the best explanation of how to get there:
This year, it will be stopping at 750 Runnymede Road in front of the railway’s Lambton Yard office.
It’s a short walk from anywhere in the upper Junction.
Parking is available at the Walmart beside the office.

Transit users may take the 71 and 79 bus routes which originate from Runnymede subway station and get off at Runnymede and St. Clair, then walk south towards the railway underpass. The entrance to the yard is just before the underpass, and is next to the Walmart plaza.

The 40 Junction route goes to the loop at Dundas and Runnymede, and riders can get off there and walk north, through the underpass. The yard entrance is on the left.

Those taking the 30 Lambton bus will likewise get off at Dundas and Runnymede and walk north through the underpass on the west sidewalk of Runnymede.

The Junction Music Festival

The Junction Music Festival is a Festival of Independent Music for All Ages. Let the Music Guide You through the Neighbourhood on Saturday, September 22nd, 2012.

The Junction Business Improvement Association will host the Junction Music Festival that will run from 11 am to 2 am.

The Junction Music Festival is a festival of independent music for all ages. More than 20 venues, from cafes to interior design stores, will host music acts along Dundas Street West throughout the day.

Our small stage (on Pacific Ave. North of Dundas St. West) will present independent musical acts from noon to 8 PM, and will include some local favourites like Young Running, Dan Gooch & The Cedar Strippers, Philly Moves and more.

In the evening, at South West corner of Dundas and Keele Street intersection, the Junction Music Festival will showcase a free concert by musicians who rarely appear in non-ticketed public events. At 8 PM, in the heart of the Junction, at SW corner of Dundas Street West and Keele Street - you will hear the artist who has credited The Junction for being his Brooklyn-an international award winning Jazz trumpet player Brownman and his ensemble Electryc Trio. Next, indie rockers with terrific sound and the name we love, The Junction. Our closing act, musicians who recently headlined a festival in Yukon- the incredibly talented group with bounds of rolling soul- Bruce Peninsula.

Several Junction Businesses will celebrate The Junction neighbourhood’s love for the art of music by hosting family friendly music workshops, cooking Music inspired cuisine and of course hosting musical talent at different times of the day.

Kara Bogaz Gol in the Distillery District until October 1

Guy Laliberté's GAIA Exhibit in Distillery, photo collage by Olga Goubar

GAIA
The Earth Like You've Never Seen it Before
A series of 60 large scale photographs taken from space
A creative project by Guy Laliberté

Presented by: Thompson Landry Gallery
at The Distillery Historic District in Toronto
August 2 - October 1, 2012

The GAIA exhibit showcases incredible photographs of the Earth taken from a distance of more than 350 kilometres by Guy Laliberté during his 11-day orbit, revealing unique views of some 40 countries.

Costs: Free
Once in a while you can find living proof that your wildest dreams have come true, that happened to me whilst visiting the GAIA exhibit by Guy Laliberté, the creator of Cirque du Soleil, hosted by the Thompson Landry Gallery in the Distillery District.

Guy became the space clown with his camera, cherishing the earth, whilst being the first Canadian space tourist.

To my greatest joy, the first illustration in the body of his book GAIA begins with Kara Bogaz Gol, the marvellous story of the rejuvenation of the “mighty straight lake" and the spectacular, sparking emerald heart chakra green, glistening next to the throat chakra blue of the Caspian Sea.

The image of the Caspian Sea is identical to the ground of the Water Goddess painting by Toronto artist Darinka Blagaj years ago, she phoned from in front of the Kara Bogaz Gol panel and read the text into my voice-mail. I could not believe my ears, but apparently I can, I have checked with my own eyes and you can touch the huge photos on metal panels in the courtyard, an experience of walking round the world not to be missed, truly out of this world and so absolutely and beautifully true.

You can travel the world in miniature and macrocosm at the same time. So wild, such a gift. I wonder if Guy watched the movie all astronauts watch before going into space, the movie was made at Kara Bogaz Gol, and is called "The White Sun of the Desert". I found the magical child holding that Sun, in the palm of a funny man's hand more than a year ago.

So yes, I really do feel on top of the world, thanks to all of you for making my life so wonderful and this all real!!!!! Yeah. Fairy tales come true "when you're young at heart."

Life is the story, I'm so happy with mine, thanks so much for being a part of it, and big hugs all round ... the GAIA show runs until September 3, 2012 October 1, 2012.

On Friday, July 27, the BIA presents ‘The Island President’ at Dundas Street West and Indian Grove, starting at 9 p.m.

The documentary film by Jon Shenk tells the story of President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives, a man confronting a problem greater than any other world leader has ever faced – the literal survival of his country and everyone in it.

Having brought democracy to the Maldives after three decades of despotic rule, Nasheed must now overcome an even greater challenge: one of the lowest lying countries in the world, its 1,200 islands are at risk of being submerged should sea level rise as little as three feet. The film captures Nasheed’s first year in office and follows him to the Copenhagen Climate Summit in 2009.

More movies under the stars will follow on Aug. 10 and Aug. 24. Films are to be announced.

The dates for the Language Days were selected by the Department of Public Information for their symbolic or historic significance in connection with each language:
  • Arabic Language Day will be 8 December, the date on which the United Nations General Assembly designated Arabic as the sixth official language of the United Nations in 1973;
  • English Language Day will be 23 April, traditionally recognized as William Shakespeare’s birthday;
  • French Language Day will be marked on 20 March, International Day of Francophonie;
  • Russian Language Day will be 6 June, the birthday of Aleksandr Pushkin, considered by many to be the greatest Russian poet;
  • Spanish Language Day will be celebrated on 12 October, traditionally observed in Spanish speaking countries as Dia de la Hispanidad;
  • Chinese Language Day will be celebrated on 19 April, the date was selected from Guyu ("Rain of Millet"), which is the 6th of 24 solar terms in the traditional East Asian calendars, to pay tribute to Cangjie.
